What is a Pocket Market? FoodRoots gathers local produce from our farmers and makes it available to the general public at a regularly scheduled two or three table (or more) markets. This allows the farmer to spend more time in the fields! Farmers who would like to are encouraged to have a table themselves or to come as guests on occasion. Local urban growers and community gardeners are encouraged to participate. We also offer locallly processed goods!!
Create Pockert Market in Your Community
FoodRoots presents an online Pocket Market Toolkit. Click the button below to launch the toolkit or, continue reading this page for an overview of Pocket Markets.
Pocket Markets are a focal point for creating community in your neighbourhood. Your community can create its own market accessing local food through FoodRoots. You can do this in several ways:
The community provides the location, insurance, promotion and any associated costs. One volunteer to help setup and take down. FoodRoots supplies the produce and other local goodies; displays and sells the produce; deals with any leftovers; and takes the financial risk.
The Community provides the location, insurance, promotion and any associated
costs. The Community buys produce and processed goods from FoodRoots.
FoodRoots supports the market by training people in tracking sales, ordering and
display of produce, supplying links to farmers, food security groups and educational
material. The Community sets up, runs the market and deals with any excess.
If neither of these options is realistic for you, we'd be happy to work with you to customize a plan that addresses your community's needs.

We are working with the City of Victoria and other interested parties on the planning of a year round public market! Watch for more on the promotional event planned for this coming September!
